Join the club’s walk to the match campaign whether you are walking to the Wham Stadium or your local grassroots facility!
Let’s Move Hyndburn, Walk to the Match, is a collaboration between Accrington Stanley Football Club, Community Trust, Supporter’s Trust, and Women’s Football Club who have come together to inspire people to be more active, by walking to the Stanley match.
It all began at the Accrington Stanley and Derby County match, when the fans came together for the launch of Let’s walk to the match campaign, thus, to raise social media awareness creating images and quotes from the Stanley faithful to bring the brand and the campaign alive.
From the success of this campaign in it’s first run, David Burgess Director at Accrington Stanley football club quoted “Let’s keep walking to the game in numbers” and because of this we are looking for local champions to get Hyndburn.

Celebrating Inclusivity: Walk to the Match & Unite for Access
We are delighted to have collaborated with our partners at Accrington Stanley Community Trust on this initiative and to see Walk to the Match evolve with a strong focus on inclusivity. It has been fantastic to work alongside new partners and support the incredible efforts being made in disability sports projects, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate and enjoy the game.
As part of this commitment, we attended the Unite for Access match at Accrington Stanley Football Club, celebrating the importance of accessibility in sport. This event highlighted the positive impact of inclusivity, bringing people together to champion equal opportunities for all.
A huge thank you to our incredible partners for their dedication and support in making this initiative a success:

Historic Day in Liverpool
#WalkToTheMatch hit the road for an unforgettable day as Accrington Stanley took on Liverpool in the FA Cup. The highly anticipated match took place on Saturday, 11th January, at the iconic Anfield stadium, a venue steeped in football history.
Over 4,000 passionate Stanley supporters packed the away end, singing and cheering their hearts out in support of their team. Their chants and songs echoed through the stadium, creating an electric atmosphere and showcasing the unwavering spirit of the club’s loyal fans.
A significant number of these dedicated supporters participated in the #WalkToTheMatch, a tradition that highlights the unity and camaraderie among football fans. The walk, starting at the train station and stretching 1.4 miles to Anfield, became a lively procession of red-and-white scarves, flags, and anticipation. Families, friends, and fans of all ages joined together, sharing their excitement for the big game.
Among the walkers was a young fan who took the lead in guiding one of the groups, symbolising the future of the club and the next generation of supporters. This spirited gesture added a heartwarming touch to an already special day, reflecting the deep sense of community that Accrington Stanley inspires.
Despite the challenge of facing a Premier League giant, the Stanley supporters remained optimistic and full of pride for their team. The walk, the chants, and the shared passion made it a day to remember, proving that football is more than just a game—it’s about the people, the stories, and the moments that bring us all together.
We are excited to see where #WalkToTheMatch will go from here as it grows from strength to strength, inspiring even more fans to unite and celebrate the beautiful game.

Jack Barrett Walk
#WalkToTheMatch took part in the Jack Barrett Sponsored Walk on Saturday, November 16th. The Let’s Move Hyndburn team joined forces with a group of Accrington Stanley supporters to walk from Ewood Park in Blackburn to The Wham Stadium, where they cheered on Accrington Stanley in their match against Swindon Town FC.
This event showcased the growth and development of #WalkToTheMatch by extending the walking distance to connect communities from Blackburn to Hyndburn.
Starting at 10 am, participants completed an impressive 7.8-mile walk, tracking their progress using the free Let’s Move Hyndburn MyWellness App.
It was a fantastic day of bringing people together, promoting physical activity, and celebrating community spirit while supporting our local team!

#MosquetoMatch
#MosquetoMatch took place on Saturday 6th April 2024.
This was led by Raza Jamia Masjid in partnership with Let’s Move Hyndburn and Accrington Stanley & Community Trust.
This walk aimed to celebrate #WalkToTheMatch as well as encourage active lifestyles in Hyndburn while promoting inclusivity. The walk saw over 30 people including children and adults walk from the local mosque to the match to see Accrington Stanley against Crewe Alexandra FC.
This included one 64-year-old grandparent, who joined his grandchildren in attending his first ever Accrington Stanley match, despite living in Accrington for all of his life.
This walk also had representation from 3 Mosques which was a great way to show how the campaign is effectively bringing communities together for a common goal.

#MascottoMatch
#MascottoMatch took place on Sunday 11th Feb 2024.
Rossendale Valley Junior Football Club joined the walk from Broadway with their friends and family to support the Women’s Team on their return to the Wham Stadium as they took on Darwen FC Women.
This was a fun day and brought together the community on a memorable and historic day and there was plenty of time for the keen mascots who walked to get some autographs from the team!
Once again there were free tickets on offer allowing as many people as possible to participate and attend the match.
The Let’s Move Hyndburn team collaborated with Chairperson Sami Smithson and Rossendale Valley to promote the walk and on the day shared live updates on the Let’s Move Hyndburn social media to share the experience with followers.

#WalkToTheMatch
The very first #WalkToTheMatch in which a group of over 35 walked from Hyndburn Leisure Centre to The Wham to see Stanley take on MK Dons on Saturday 18th March 2023.
Accrington Stanley Community Trust supported this walk by providing free tickets to the match for supporters taking part in the walk. This was well received with a wide range of supporters in of different ages and from different parts of Hyndburn participating.
First team players were very supportive during this walk by recording promotional videos which were shared on social media as well as photographs. This generated interest in the campaign as supporters were able to see their favourite players supporting the campaign. The walk route was also shared prior on social media which allowed supporters to know ahead of time the route ahead and plan accordingly. The sun was out and it was a wonderful day for all involved.
The turnout showed there was plenty of potential for the campaign to bring people together with one walker on the day stating how they have been a regular attend of Stanley matches but have always walked by themselves. This showed how issues such as loneliness and social isolation could be addressed through #WalkToTheMatch.
