The Clayton Community Garden is a true story of transformation. Once a neglected and unused space, it has been brought back to life through the hard work, creativity, and determination of local residents, volunteers, and partner organisations.
What began as an idea in 2023 has grown into a thriving green space where the community can gather, learn, and enjoy nature. Thanks to funding from the Lancashire Environment Fund, the Prospects Foundation, and support from local businesses, the garden now features raised beds, new fencing, and accessible steps. Students from ACCROSS College played a key role in the project, helping to clear the site and build the garden as part of their learning.
The garden is also home to creative touches, such as a vibrant mural designed and painted by local young people with Super Slow Way, adding colour and pride to the space. Further support from the Neighbourly Fund, Sainsbury’s, and Argos has helped us continue to grow — providing tools, seeds, and everything needed to keep the garden flourishing.
Today, the Clayton Community Garden is more than just a green space. It’s a symbol of what can be achieved when a community comes together — a place to grow plants, share skills, connect with neighbours, and celebrate Clayton’s heritage and future.
Clayton Community Garden began in summer 2023, transforming a neglected space plagued by rubbish and garden waste into a vibrant hub for the community. In 2024, local young people brought the garden to life with a mural, while support from the Neighbourly Fund, Sainsbury’s, Argos, and local business Metal Formations provided tools, fencing, and finishing touches. Today, the garden stands as a thriving space for residents to connect, grow, and enjoy.
