Work is set to begin on the installation of new security fencing at Clayton Community Centre following concerns from residents about repeated incidents of anti-social behaviour around the site.
The new fencing, which will be installed at the rear of the building, has been made possible through funding secured from the Police and Crime Commissioner and Hyndburn Borough Council. The project is the result of partnership working between local residents, neighbourhood policing teams, Hyndburn Leisure and ward councillors to address ongoing community concerns and improve the security of the popular facility.
Councillor Melissa Fisher , PCSO Emilee Dewhurst and Hyndburn Leisure have been instrumental in working together to secure the funding required for the scheme.
Hyndburn Leisure is overseeing the project and has coordinated arrangements with local contractor Pilkington Bros of Church, who will carry out the installation works.
PC 3629 Paul Pountain, who has been a Neighbourhood Constable in Clayton-le-Moors for 20 years stated, “This area has been an antisocial behaviour hotspot for decades and it is fantastic that a long-term solution has now been found.”
PCSO 7694 Emilee Dewhurst who has worked the area for the past three years stated, “I have listened to residents through our Lancashire Talking service and whilst out on high visibility foot patrol. Many have mentioned anti-social behaviour around the boxing club and so the Neighbourhood Policing Team have worked closely with our partners to find a long-term solution. The new fencing will help protect the building and surrounding area, making it more difficult for antisocial behaviour and low-level criminal behaviour to take place. This is a great example of how local agencies and the community can work together to deliver positive improvements.”

Work is expected to commence mid-September.
