The much-anticipated launch of the Clayton Le Moors Heritage Project’s permanent exhibition on November 21st was met with enthusiastic acclaim from attendees. Held at the Clayton Community Centre, the event showcased the rich tapestry of local history, bringing together community members, history enthusiasts, and families to celebrate their heritage.
The exhibition, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and designed in partnership with Stephen Caton of Source Creative, featured captivating displays of historical photographs, personal stories, and a collection of text that highlighted the significance of Clayton Le Moors’ past. Attendees were delighted by a heartfelt performance of the specially written The Ballad of Clayton Le Moors, accompanied by three traditional Lancashire songs, adding a truly memorable and charming touch to the event.
“It was fantastic to see so many people engaged with our local history,” said Ian Hodgson, Community Activator. “This project has sparked much interest and camaraderie among the community, and it’s clear that we share a deep appreciation for our heritage. Thank you all for making this possible!”
Emotional responses poured in from those who attended. Tom O Kane, a musician from the area remarked, “This exhibition has served as a powerful reminder of our roots and the stories that have shaped who we are.” Another attendee, Mr Carter, expressed, “Seeing our town’s history displayed so beautifully has filled me with pride and nostalgia. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned today!”
“It’s incredible to see the community united for an event like this,” said CEO Lyndsey Sims from Hyndburn Leisure. “Ian and his team have revealed fascinating pieces of our history that many of us were unaware of. This exhibition honours our past and inspires greater community engagement and appreciation for our local heritage.”
“We wanted to encourage everyone to explore their history and connect with the stories that shaped our community. Hopefully, this showcase has inspired a deeper appreciation for our shared heritage and sparked curiosity about the past,” Ian added.
The project doesn’t end with the event; the team is already planning future initiatives, including an animated feature, a definitive history book, educational resources for schools, and dementia-friendly materials for care home residents. The enthusiasm surrounding the exhibition ensures a lasting legacy for the people of Clayton Le Moors.
