Notice of information for the change of use of half of Hyndburn Leisure Centre Sports Hall.

Hyndburn Leisure Centre is celebrating its 40th year in January 2017. Originally Hyndburn Sports Centre, it was the only 8 court sports hall in Lancashire. During the last decade, there have been numerous halls opened up for community use where Badminton and other sports are being played, these halls are mainly attached to schools, Accrington and Rossendale College have also unveiled a multipurpose hall, available for community use.

Hyndburn Leisure have been set challenging targets by a reduction in grant funding from Hyndburn Borough council of £350,000 by April 2018.

We have had a sustained approach to reducing expenditure and increasing income in recent years and have implemented many different ways of investing to save money across all of our sites.  The recent swimming pool redevelopment being an example. We must also continue to look at more commercial ways of making our facilities sustainable.

This will include the change of use of half the sports hall to a children’s soft play area. Work on the change of use will begin in February of 2017, and we will inform all club users of the dates in due course.

We will strive to accommodate the majority of our current use on the four remaining courts in the sports hall and we also have additional capacity by way of 2 courts in the table tennis centre.
