Great Harwood residents were delighted this week with the news that the swimming pool at Mercer Hall Leisure Centre was to re-open after a lengthy closure for essential repairs. The pool, which is located on Queen Street, next to Morrisons, was temporarily closed in October 2018 after a number of problems arose which required fixing.
Lyndsey Sims, Chief Executive of Hyndburn Leisure said, “We took the decision to close the pool last year after the failure of one of the main pumps. After emptying the pool and getting in a contractor for the repair, a number of other problems came to the surface which also required repairing, including pool leaks and damaged pipework. Although we do our best to keep the building up to date, including recent investment in the refurbishment of the gym, unfortunately repairs of this nature are to be expected in an ageing building like Mercer Hall Leisure Centre. Having said that, we are delighted to be able to re-open the pool this week. The customers have been very understanding about the whole situation and we’ve managed to accommodate many at Hyndburn Leisure Centre whilst the repairs were carried out, but I’m sure they’ll be happy to be back swimming in Great Harwood.”
Hyndburn Leisure, who operate the building will be holding an Open Day at Mercer Hall Leisure Centre on Saturday 27th April to encourage customers to come back to the centre, and also encourage people who don’t usually use the facilities to pay a visit. The open day starts at 10am and will include free taster sessions in the Ladies Only Feelgood Suite, Cardio Vascular Room and Fitness classes, as well as show rounds of the whole centre including the thermal suite. The Learn to Swim Team will also be holding talks on the programme of swimming lessons and offering a discount to those who sign their children up to learn to swim that day. Health checks will also be available on the day.
There’ll be exclusive membership offers available for one day only including £90 off Annual Premier Membership or 6 months for the price of 5.
