Hyndburn Borough Council are leading a review process to develop a shared vision to transform Hyndburn’s leisure facilities. They are keen to involve the community in this process to make sure that our leisure centres make a lasting impact by encouraging more people to improve their health and wellbeing in Hyndburn.
A shared local vision for the future will be created for Leisure in Hyndburn, with plans to invest in and transform facilities after consultation with the public. The ‘Leisure Estate Review’ process will open for consultation on the 11th March 2021.
Hyndburn Borough Council’s facilities under review include Hyndburn Leisure Centre, Mercer Hall Leisure Centre and Wilson Athletics Track, which are managed by the Leisure Trust. With over 80,000 people living in Hyndburn access to a thriving leisure offer is essential.
Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council is looking forward to seeing ideas from the public about how these facilities should be transformed to serve the generations to come:
“We have been reviewing our current Leisure facilities for over 2 years and it is essential we take a strategic approach, always thinking ahead to the future. With the existing buildings over 40 years old and in need of repair, doing nothing is not an option.”
Lyndsey Sims, CEO of Hyndburn Leisure Trust added:
“The cost to maintain and run the facilities as they currently stand requires a significant investment over the coming years. Our vision is for future investment to provide Leisure and Wellbeing facilities for the Hyndburn community that provide opportunities for more people, to be more active, more often.
Incorporating green energy solutions and ensuring that facilities are accessible are key to the investment plans too. An independent feasibility study is currently underway following Sport England’s Strategic Outcome Planning Model. Detailed recommendations from this study will be launched in mid-March and a public consultation process will then begin, ensuring residents have the opportunity to contribute their thoughts and help shape the future for Leisure in Hyndburn.”
