With Armed Forces Day fast approaching, Hyndburn Leisure are pleased to announce that they will continue their free use for Armed Forces Personnel for another year. The scheme, which is funded in partnership with Hyndburn Borough Council, provides free use of leisure facilities at Hyndburn and Mercer Hall Leisure Centre for all serving Armed Forces Personnel.
Lyndsey Sims, Chief Executive of Hyndburn Leisure said, “It’s great to be able to share this fantastic news so close to Armed Forces Day. Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much valued morale boost for the troops and their families”
As well as providing free use of Leisure Facilities, the Hyndburn Leisure Staff have got on board with Armed Forces Day celebrations, non more so than Edward Harkness, a Swimming Teacher and Army Reservist. From the 9th June to 15th June, Edward took part in the Big Battlefield Bike Ride in aid of Help for Heroes. The challenge raised over £2,700 by cycling 350 miles in 5 days, from Cherbourg to Paris, cycling through some of the historic sites from the Second World War including Pegasus Bridge, Utah, Omaha, Juno, Gold and Sword beaches and many more. Ed is continuing to fundraise for Help for Heroes with a Zumbathon now organised for Saturday 27th July.
Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE said, “Armed Forces Day is our chance to celebrate and thank our Armed Forces past and present and show our support for all they do to protect us and keep the country safe. So we’re happy to be able show our appreciation and support by providing free use of leisure facilities at Hyndburn and Mercer Hall Leisure Centre for all serving Armed Forces Personnel.”
