Thanks to a £2 million grant from Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund we’re cutting carbon at Hyndburn Leisure Centre
Fossil fuels have no place in our future. Burning them creates greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, trapping heat in the atmosphere and sending temperatures skywards. This causes big local, regional and global problems: extreme weather, rising sea levels, challenges for farmers and destroying habitats. We all have a responsibility to stop climate change in its tracks.
For the 1st week all services will be affected with the gym, ladies only feelgood suite, classes, dry sports and gymnastics resuming Monday 20th June and due to further works there will be no hot water for showers, members will be asked to arrive Gym ready.
For a further 3 weeks the final stage of the works will impact on adventure city, learn to swim, pool, sauna, steam and café. These areas will resume as normal Saturday 9th July.
The good news is during the closure our members and pay as you go users will be directed to our facilities at Mercer Hall Leisure Centre, Accrington Academy, Bank Mill, Clayton & West end Community Centre & ATH, Active network is also an option for members.

A little closure to cut lots more carbon
We’re now entering the final phase of our ambitious decarbonisation scheme, which saw £2 million awarded by the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme invested into Hyndburn Leisure Centre.
That means that work will soon begin to replace Hyndburn Leisure Centre’s outdated gas-powered boilers, metering and monitoring systems with cutting-edge air source heat pumps, plus the installation of 652 solar panels.
Once completed, the project will propel our centre into the 21st century, cutting carbon, running costs and allowing us to continue to deliver on value and positive health outcomes for service users.
Not quite ‘business as usual’
That’s why from Monday 13th June you might notice some changes to services and classes at Hyndburn Leisure Centre. There’ll even be a short period of closure – one week, 13th-19th June – to allow this vital work to take place.
The good news, though, is that disruption will be minimal, with a comprehensive temporary timetable and pop-up classes featuring all of your favourite instructors already lined up.
What does it mean for my activities?
Swimmers will be redirected to Accrington Academy for four weeks from 13th June, and the sauna, steam room and café will also be closed for this period.
For one week from 13th-19th June, popular classes such as Les Mills, Body Pump, Grit and Fitness yoga will relocate to other local venues, with the majority taking place at Accrington Academy and Mercer Hall Leisure Centre.
Gym facilities will be available at Accrington Academy and Mercer Hall Leisure Centre.
Most activities will resume from Monday 20th June, although the showers will be out of action for three further weeks, so please factor this into your plans.
For more information and details on how to book, please see the temporary timetable.
